Programs offered by the University of Minnesota Extension in Anoka County include:

 

4-H Youth Development

4-H clubs are open to youth, kindergarten through one year past high school. The entire family can join in projects and activities. 4-H involvement includes learning by doing, practicing leadership, participating in a wide variety of projects, positive out-of-school time, science and arts enrichment, service to communities, youth teaching youth, and a lot of fun!

 

Dollars Into $ense Class

A 1 1/2 hour class on the basics of developing a spending/saving plan that works. Offered at no cost to Anoka County residents the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

 

Master Gardener Program

The University of Minnesota Master Gardener Program trains volunteers to educate people in their communities about horticulture. Anoka County Master Gardeners offer a Yard and Garden Answer Line (952-443-1426), a Home Landscaping & Garden Fair in the spring, Plant Diagnostic Clinics in the summer, A Walk in the Garden Series, and educational booths at various locations in Anoka County.

 

Simply Good Eating Nutrition Education Program

People with limited incomes can discover how to make healthy food choices while stretching food dollars in our classes. Funding for this program comes from the USDA Food Stamp Nutrition Education and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Programs. In Anoka County, Nutrition Education Assistants teach nutrition in local schools, agencies, and senior centers.

 

Homeowner Education for Septic Systems

Learn how to keep your septic system operating properly�when to pump, how to protect if from freezing, and more. 

 

Other Resources

Answer Line, 1-800-854-1678, M-F 9 am-12 & 1-4 pm. Household experts answer questions about food safety, canning and freezing foods, cleaning stains and mildew and other household questions.

 

Farm Information Line, 1-800-232-9077, M-F 8:30 am-1:30 pm. Extension educators respond to agriculture and small acreage questions.  They provide referrals to local Extension agriculture personnel where available.
