Family Planning

As a part of our family home visiting program, your public health nurse will go over family planning (child spacing) information. This will include the different types and methods of birth control as well as the community resources available to you.

Pregnant/Parenting Teens

Here in Anoka County we have public health nurses who provide services to pregnant and parenting teens. We may visit you in your home, at school or at other community sites that are convenient for you. Our nurses will support your efforts to have a healthy pregnancy and may provide information about: being pregnant, preparing for labor and delivery, what to expect after your baby is born, newborn cares, on-going parenting concerns, and infant growth and development.

This education may be provided as a part of your home/school visit or it might be offered through one of the classes we provide through the Anoka Teen Program. The public health nurse is here to help answer your questions, connect you with any community resources you and your baby may need, and support you in having a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Pregnancy

A public health nurse can visit you during your pregnancy. The nurse may check your blood pressure and your weight in-between your doctor visits. The nurse can show you videos and provide education on the different stages of pregnancy, what to expect, breastfeeding and newborn education, as well as helping to connect you with any community resources you may need.

Postpartum/Newborn

At a postpartum/newborn home visit, your nurse will weigh and measure your baby. She will do a postpartum assessment for you as well, which includes breastfeeding support and education on mother and baby cares. Your public health nurse can provide you with countless resources for new moms and babies.

Child Growth & Development

The public health nurse can weigh, measure, and monitor the growth and development of your child between doctor visits. We have a special needs/chronically ill program for children in need of this type of visiting. Your nurse will provide you with appropriate education and can make referrals to resources you and your family may need.

Parenting

Your public health nurse can provide you with many resources for parenting rom the early newborn period to the toddler years and up. Your nurse is available to answer your questions, provide information on a variety of parenting issues such as feeding, discipline, safety, child growth and development and general parenting issues and concerns. Your nurse may also connect you with community resources that may be helpful to you as a parent.

Childhood Safety

Your public health nurse can do a home safety assessment and bring out a basic safety kit to help you get started. The nurse will go over safety recommendations for each area in your home. The nurse may also connect you with community resources such as car seat and bike helmet clinics.
