The Anoka County Sheriff's Office has a new service available to residents of Anoka County who have certain medical needs. The Sheriff’s Office offers Project Lifesaver to families with loved ones challenged by Alzheimer’s, Autism, Dementia or other medical conditions where a person may wander and expose themselves to danger.
Families interested in enrolling in Project Lifesaver will have their loved one fitted with a transmitting bracelet. In the event that person was to wander off, the Sheriff’s Office would dispatch deputies equipped with specialized equipment that could assist in the rapid recovery of the client wearing the transmitter. Project Lifesaver is a nationally known program that has proven itself successful at locating participants in the program.
There is a cost involved to families who may be interested in participating in the program. An initial cost of $300 covers the equipment and supplies for the first year. A technician will fit the participant with the transmitter and visit monthly to change the battery and re-fit the band. After the first year, the fee is billed in monthly $25 installments.
Persons interested in Project Lifesaver can contact Laura Landes at projectlifesaver@co.anoka.mn.us or by phone at (763) 767-4664.
